Government & Public Sector
A digital front door onto a paper process.
Plenty of public services now accept submissions online. Behind the form, the work is often unchanged — printing, re-keying, routing by email. The citizen experience improves at the submission step and nowhere else.
The same details, repeatedly
Digitised submission only
Accessibility audited late
Four corners of the government sector
The government sector is not one market. These are the areas we work in most, each with its own systems, regulators and pressures.
Local Government
Council services, permits, rates and community-facing portals.
State & Federal Agencies
Case management, grants administration and regulatory systems.
Education Authorities
Student administration, reporting and inter-agency data sharing.
Utilities & Public Services
Service requests, asset management and field operations.

The problems that actually come up.
Recurring issues in government, and what we do about each one.
Citizens filling the same form repeatedly
Service portals with identity, saved progress and pre-filled data, so information is asked for once and reused across services.
Paper and PDF processes behind a digital front door
Document AI and workflow automation that handle intake, extraction and routing rather than just digitising the submission step.
Legacy systems that cannot share data
Interoperability layers and APIs that let agency systems exchange data under proper governance.
Accessibility treated as a compliance checkbox
WCAG 2.1 AA built into design and tested throughout, because public services have to work for everyone.
Automate the processing, not just the form.
The value is in what happens after submission — extraction, routing, assessment and status back to the citizen. We build that, and we build around legacy systems rather than waiting for them to be replaced.
Capabilities for government.
The work we are most often brought in to do in this sector.
Citizen Service Portals
Identity, application, payment and status tracking in one accessible interface.
Document AI & Processing
Extraction, classification and routing for forms, submissions and correspondence.
Secure Cloud Migration
Staged migration of agency workloads with data sovereignty maintained.
Case & Grants Management
Assessment workflow, decision records and reporting for regulatory and funding programmes.
System Interoperability
API layers and data exchange between agency and third-party systems.
Accessibility Engineering
WCAG 2.1 AA compliance designed and tested through delivery, not audited at the end.
Built on tooling your team can keep running.
Mainstream, well-supported platforms rather than anything exotic, so your people or another supplier can maintain what we hand over.
How we work in the government sector
Document AI with review
Extraction and routing handled automatically, with a person checking rather than reading.
Decouple from legacy
A modern service sits over systems that cannot change, buying time to retire them properly.
Accessibility in normal QA
Keyboard, screen reader and contrast tested continuously, not audited at the end.

Frequently asked questions.
What clients in government usually want to know before starting.
1. Is our data kept in Australia?
Yes. For public sector work we deploy into Australian Azure regions and keep data resident, including backups and logs. Where a third-party service is involved we check its data residency before it enters the architecture, not after.
2. Do you meet accessibility requirements?
We build to WCAG 2.1 AA, and we test through delivery rather than auditing at the end — retrofitting accessibility is expensive and usually produces a worse result. That includes keyboard navigation, screen reader testing and colour contrast as part of normal QA.
3. Can you work within our procurement framework?
Yes. We are used to staged engagements with defined deliverables and can work to panel arrangements and standard government contracting terms. Tell us which framework applies and we will structure the engagement to fit it.
4. How do you handle legacy systems that cannot be replaced?
We build around them. An integration layer lets a modern citizen-facing service sit on top of a system that cannot change, which decouples the user experience from the replacement timeline — and buys time to retire the legacy system properly.
5. What happens to the system after handover?
You own the code, the infrastructure definitions and the documentation. We offer ongoing support where it is wanted, but the handover is designed so your team or another supplier can take it on without us.
Let's talk about your government challenge.
Tell us what is not working. We will tell you honestly whether it is something we can help with, and what it would realistically take.
